Brush Finish Aluminum Composite Panel

A brushed-finish ACP takes an aluminium skin and gives it a directional satin texture — the surface is abraded in one direction and then coated or clear-anodised to protect it. The result reads as brushed stainless steel from a distance but is a lightweight composite: a 4 mm panel weighs roughly 5.5 kg per square metre, so it is far easier to handle, cut and fold than a metal sheet of the same size.

• Much lighter, so the supporting frame, lift structure or shopfront carcass does not have to be built for the weight of steel
• Easier and cheaper to cut, rout and fold with ordinary tools, on site if necessary
• No weld marks or heat distortion, so the finish stays consistent across a large elevation
• Considerably lower cost per square metre than an equivalent stainless sheet

Where the specification calls for a satin metal look within a budget and a weight limit, brushed ACP is usually the practical answer.

Brushed panels are made in four standard faces: Brushed Silver, Brushed Golden, Brushed Blue and Brushed Red. The appearance also depends on the direction of the brushing against the light, so on a long elevation the panels should be laid with the grain running the same way. • Kitchen splashbacks, appliance fronts and commercial kitchen linings
• Column covers, reception desks and interior wall panels
• Signage and wayfinding

Most of these are interior or sheltered positions. A brushed face used fully exposed should be specified with a PVDF coating so the satin finish does not chalk — see PE vs FR-B1 vs A2 core if the project also carries a fire requirement.
